AN ADDRESS PRESENTED TO HIS EXCELLENCY, THE EXECUTIVE GOVERNOR OF EBONYI STATE ON THE OCCASION OF POSA COURTESY CALL BY THE NATIONAL PRESIDENT – DR CYRIL O. ANINWIKE, FPSN

Your Excellency, the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State, Rt. Hon. Bldr Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, FNIOB, GGCEHF, I, on behalf of the BOT and Leadership of PRESCO Old Students Association (POSA) express our delight at this opportunity of a Courtesy Call on you.

On this POSA Team are, HRH Eze Laz Umahi, PhD; His Lordship, the Chief Judge of Ebonyi State, Justice Elvis Anagu Ngene; Chief Ben Okah, Chairman of the Ebonyi Elders Council and Chairman of the Abakaliki Branch, Chief Matthias Adum, Principal Secretary to the Executive Governor of Ebonyi State; Austin Udude, Director of Protocol (Government House); Engr Ogbonnaya Obasi Abara, Commissioner for Infrastructure; Engr. Godwin Nwankwo, newly appointed Chairman of the Ebonyi State Electricity Board; Prof. Wilberforce Oti, Chairman of the Ebonyi State PFN and National Secretary of POSA; Pharm (Sir) JC Agwu, Chairman of EKO POSA and Chairman of the 2024 POSA Ivory Convention Planning Committee; and yours Sincerely, Dr Cyril Aninwike, FPSN, the National President of POSA.

Your Excellency, we are particularly excited that amongst the members of this team are strategic members of Ebonyi State Executive Council and other appointees of your Administration. We are extremely grateful to you for the opportunity you have granted our members to serve the State through your appointments. Knowing the pedigree of our training in PRESCO, I assure you that our Old Students in your Government will continue to bring valuable competencies and capacities to their respective duties and responsibilities.
PRESCO OLD STUDENTS ASSOCIATION (POSA) is the con-fraternal umbrella body of all old Students of Abakaliki High School (formerly PRESCO) worldwide.
Our 62nd Biennial National Convention termed IVORY NATIONAL CONVENTION is slated to hold between August 29 and September 1st, 2024 at Remeritona Hotels & Suites, Abakaliki – Ebonyi State with the THEME: Ivory Convention for Consolidation: Harnessing the Efforts of Old Students for Qualitative Education & Improved Infrastructures in Nigerian Colleges. We also use the convention to directly interact with the Students/Staff of PRESCO to see possible areas of needs we can partner with them towards the betterment of our Alma-Mater.

This Convention promises to attract eminent/distinguished personalities from within and outside Nigeria into Abakaliki, the beautiful Ebonyi State capital city and will impact positively on the socioeconomic/tourism sectors of the State.
POSA National Executive Committee and entire members have most respectfully nominated Your Excellency as the Convention’s SPECIAL GUEST OF HONOUR, being our father/father of the state and most deservedly in lieu of the Excellent Leadership of your administration based on the Transformative People’s Charter of Needs Agenda especially on EDUCATION and HUMAN CAPITAL DEVELOPMENT.
Also, the POSA STAR AWARD shall be bestowed on you at the Convention.

Your Excellency, permit me to express the immense pride the Leadership and members of POSA worldwide have at the unprecedented people-oriented developmental projects you have commenced and even many that you have completed in this very short period of your governance – barely fourteen months. The peace and tranquility that currently reign supreme in the State are a testament of the fact that “when the righteous is in authority, the people rejoice.” Prov. 29:2

Your Excellency, we can rightly consider POSA as a critical partner with the Government of Ebonyi State, in consideration of the numerous developmental activities we bring to bear on our Alma Mater – Abakaliki High School. Each Convention Year, which comes every two years, we select a project of critical importance and execute in our school. In 2019, the Old Students constructed over 100 classroom desks for the students. In 2022, with the complete absence of a befitting examination/ Assembly Hall in the school, we took on the complete reconstruction of the dilapidated Examination Hall in the School. This project is standing today as one of the newest and most solid buildings in the school.

This year, we have identified perimeter fencing as the most critical need in the school, and have adopted it as the 2024 Convention Project. The need for this project that will cost us over #20 million naira cannot be over-emphasized, as the school has lost virtually all the ICT equipment and other critical infrastructure donated to the school to criminals that easily access the school at any time because of the absence of a perimeter fence.

Your Excellency, we were also very happy to learn of your plans to hand over missionary schools to their original owners, including our dear College – Presbyterian College (PRESCO). Part of our excitement is the promise and the hope of returning us to our original location at Mgbabor.

Our Prayers:
1. That Your Excellency grants us the privilege of having you as Special Guest of Honour at our 2024 POSA Ivory Convention specifically on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at the Remeritona Hotels and Suites, Abakaliki.
2. That Ebonyi State Government partners with the PRESCO Old Students Association for a timely completion of the perimeter fencing of Abakaliki High School which POSA has adopted as our 2024 Convention Project.
3. Though we are hopeful that Your Excellency will authorize and indeed, facilitate the return of our dear school to Mgbabor, we kindly plead with our people-oriented Governor to authorize the complete reconstruction of the Administrative Block of the School and the completion of other abandoned projects in the School.
4. Lastly, we pray Your Excellency grants us the use of some of the State’s facilities that we might be needing during the forthcoming POSA National Convention, particularly in the areas of security and transportation.
